ginger + bailey

is a carefully curated selection of modern handmade lifestyle and home goods.  Here you'll find unique small-batch collections of jewelry, decor, apothecary, accessories, stationery, clothing and custom one-of-a-kind pieces.  The shop is owned by Rachel Schultz and her husband, Drew Schultz, and is located in Frankfort, IL - a charming and historic community full of great restaurants, boutiques and open spaces just 35 miles southwest of Chicago.

our story

Flashback to 2005, when Rachel began a 10 year relationship with a big-box retailer and their intern leadership program.  There, she finessed her art of merchandising, logistics and customer service and over time, held various executive positions running stores in the western suburbs of Chicago.  After a long desire to start her own business and always having an eye for original handmade goods, she left her corporate role, evolved her business plan and ginger + bailey was born in the fall of 2015.  Drew has a background in advertising strategy and media planning and has worked in the corporate ad agency space for nine years on various retail accounts.  As a musician and connoisseur of creativity, he focuses on the marketing and operations support for the business.

The first ginger + bailey shop was located in Mokena, IL on Front Street.  It was the culmination of dreams, planning, fear and excitement.  An opportunity to start a business, grow a customer base and create a brand.  After a successful year of experience, a location in the neighboring town of Frankfort was available and sparked a curiosity to expand.  Having grown up in Frankfort, Rachel had nostalgic ties to the area and an emotional connection to open a business in her hometown, so the decision to move was made.  The new location is under the Frankfort Grainery tower, one of the most iconic and historic buildings in the area, and a great landmark to call home.

what's in a name

As owner of the business, Rachel wanted something that was personally meaningful and fun.  As she was switching gears professionally to focus on her family and personal life - "ginger + bailey" became the perfect fit.  Considering her husband Drew has red hair (ginger) and they were both the happy parents of a two year old labrador/border collie puppy (bailey), the decision was easy.

Thanks for visiting ginger + bailey!  We hope that you enjoy the collection as much as we do.

- Rachel, Drew, + Bailey
